Great great MIM @ 44th Day

In April, 2010, this museum opened.

The museum is about musical instruments!

It is called Music Instrument Museum (MIM).

I had wanted to come here since I read an article about this museum.

They collected bunch of instruments from all over the world.

There are at least 1 instrument for 1 country.

I was surprised a lot.

This is also instruments...

I don't know how to play.

Oh, is this used to play and pray?? Nice joking, isn't it?

This double-base is much bigger than contrabass. (From floor to celling)

How big is this!!

There is a picture how to play this instrument, but it needs some people to play....

Some instruments has nice appearance.

The bottom of this guitar (in South Africa) seems ink cans.

People in Phillippine can play bamboo-band not brass-band with this.

I sometimes see this instruments called steel pan in the street performance.

I didn't know this is Trinidadian instrument.

The video showed how to make and tune it, but it is really difficult...

Maybe only tuning takes over 1 hour.

This instruments is bajunes used in Bolivia, which is big pipe.

This is Democratic Congo booth. Congo instruments has great diversity.

MIM has not only country collections but also instrument group collections.

For example, trumpet,

Sax by Adolphe Sax
 Strings~~

I think this museum is no.1 musical museum in the world for sure.

This is a such a great museum that I wanna come again tomorrow.

I realized many instruments have similarity to others, even far distance.

Some might have traveled to another country, some are similar by chance.

We, people all over the world, think similar to some degree including that we "want to play."

Though instruments are similar, they are still different country to country or region to region.

While watching video, I was taking rhythm naturally.

It is nice way to tell their own culture.

Today I became interested in West African countries such as Niger or Senegal.

They enjoy playing and dancing in the video.

It might be some ceremony, and I wish I could join that.

After that museum, I went to botanical garden.

Phoenix is desert.

I am not familiar to dry climate, so I was curious about that.

I found many cactus along roads.

In garden too.

The main plants in this garden is cactus.

As long as I walked, thing that I always see is cactus.

At first, it was interesting, but eventually, it became boring.

If I had known this botanical garden takes only short time, I would have spent more time in MIM.

Hot weather (25℃) also made me return to my hostel...

The day before yesterday, it was 0℃ in Flagstaff, so my body can't fit to this climate...

However this sculpture is pretty nice.

These are sclupture describing four season.

Autumn in the front and spring in the behind.

This is summer in the front and winter in the behind.

I had one more plan today.

I had to return the car to the airport!

I miss my car, because it works well...

After returning, I took a train and a bus to get my hostel.

Soon, I wanted to drive again.

Especially bus runs too slow...

I will rent a car in CA, so wait until then, Takumi!!
